Game Selection
Choosing a good game to play can dramatically improve your results. Some mediocre players win consistently by playing with weaker players, while many excellent players are often broke because they challenge even better players or play in the wrong kind of games.
One of the easiest ways to spot a good game is by the percentage of players playing the flop. The higher the percentage is, the looser the game. This is a good indication of the overall quality of the players.
In a full ring game 40% flop is very loose and 20 % is very tight.
Another indicator is the average pot size. A very high average compared to other tables at the same limit might indicate that there is one or more maniacs or players on tilt at the table.
The best opponents
The loose passive player is the easiest opponent to beat, and there are lots of them, particularly in the smaller games. Instead of waiting for a premium hand, then attacking, they play too many hands, and they play them too passively. If you play reasonably well you shold almost newer loose to this kind of player. Play tight and agressive. Never slowplay and almost never bluff against loose passive opponents.
Playing Ace-King in no-limit
In limit Holdém A-K is a very good, but not great hand. But what about no-limit? Does its value go up or down when compared to the limit game? When you have a deep stack, A-K can be a very tricky hand to play in no-limit, because when you get involved, you usually have made only one pair. Its top pair top kicker but its still only 1 pair. Weak players tends to win a little or lose a lot with it.
The best way to play A-K in no-limit is often to go allin pre flop, you are almost newer in bad shape whith it. The only real disaster is when you are against AA or KK. Against all other hands you are a big favorite or a small underdog, against KK you are a 3-7 underdog.
